These are Some of the Books I've Read Recently and My Reviews of Them
Tobias Shoemaker nails it with his thriller The First Fallen
Everything you need for a thriller: a dark secret society, hidden religious scrolls discovered, and a book that is hard to put down.
Terrorists take over a church to start this story, and what was taken from a safe inside the place of worship could change the world forever. No spoilers beyond that...read the book.
A supercharged story that doesn't let up till the end.
Yeah, you'll be looking at the homeless a bit differently...
We've all passed by the homeless on the streets, sometimes without a second thought, wondering how a person could end up in such a way. Joshua Scribner's Scraps of Life about two hotel workers meeting up with a bum by a dumpster will have you second-guessing about the homeless population.
Read this short story a second time to get everything you missed on the first read.
The city of New Hampton has suddenly spawned a plethora of good and evil superhumans. And the war between the two takes the city literally by storm. A lot of characters to keep up with; however, all are unique and entertaining. Some repetition and questionable comma usage need to be noted, but overall a fast-paced and exciting read.
A Solid dystopian/superhero story by L.A. Frederick.
The Killer Angel is a kick-ass story by Myles Stafford. As the story starts, we join our protagonist Nicki Redstone and her dog on their travels in a world turned upside down by a virus. The virus has turned most of humanity into crazed, swift creatures that the world's survivors call runners (great name for them). Here's what sets The Killer Angel apart from other books of the genre: the characters Nicki meets on her journey and the world author Miles Stafford has created. The characters are all richly unique, and the apocalyptic world is not all doom and gloom, there is hope in the new world as well.
The Isthmus Company is a loan agency run by a mob-like group. If you borrow and can't pay back, they'll take something of value as an incentive. On one occasion, The Company takes live collateral to ensure that payment is fulfilled. Tryp and Tag are loan collectors assigned to overlook a young woman collected as collateral until her father makes payment. That's when things get interesting. The Isthmus Company gets a bit slow toward the middle of the story but pays off at the end.
